Background
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is increasingly common in adolescent athletes and can affect their ability to perform in sports. This study evaluates the effectiveness of hip arthroscopy in treating FAI in this group.
Methods
The study reviewed 96 adolescent athletes who underwent hip arthroscopy for FAI. Outcomes such as return to sport, patient satisfaction, and changes in pain and function were assessed at 2-year follow-up.
Key Findings
84% of patients returned to their sports at 2 years post-surgery. Significant improvements were seen in all patient-reported outcomes, with minimal complications.
Conclusions
Hip arthroscopy is an effective treatment for FAI in adolescent athletes, allowing most to return to their sports with minimal complications.
What Does This Mean for Patients
If you're an adolescent athlete with FAI, hip arthroscopy can provide relief and help you get back to your sport, with high success rates and low risk of complications.
