Background
This study examines the long-term results of patients who had endoscopic gluteus medius (GM) repair along with labral treatment in hip arthroscopy and compares them with those who only had labral treatment.
Methods
Patients who had both GM repair and labral treatment were studied. The outcomes were compared with a matched group of patients who only had labral treatment. Follow-up data was collected after 5 years.
Key Findings
Both groups showed significant improvements in hip function and pain relief. The group with GM repair achieved similar outcomes to the group without GM repair, showing the benefits of the combined approach.
Conclusions
Combining GM repair with labral treatment in hip arthroscopy provides safe and long-lasting improvements in hip function. The outcomes are comparable to patients who only had labral treatment.
What Does This Mean for Patients
If you have a gluteus medius tear along with a labral issue, this combined treatment can be effective in improving your hip function over the long term. Your surgeon may recommend it depending on the severity of your condition.
