Background
Hip arthroscopy is a common surgery to treat hip issues like femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). This study investigates how well amateur soccer players return to play after undergoing the procedure.
Methods
41 amateur soccer players who had hip arthroscopy for FAI were followed up at least 2 years after surgery. They were assessed on their ability to return to soccer, athletic performance, and post-surgery complications.
Key Findings
79.4% of players returned to soccer post-surgery, with 70.4% playing at the same or higher level. Overall, there were significant improvements in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and pain levels after surgery.
Conclusions
Hip arthroscopy is effective for improving athletic function and returning players to soccer, even at a competitive level, after surgery for FAI.
What Does This Mean for Patients
If you're an amateur soccer player with hip pain from FAI, hip arthroscopy can help you return to the field with improved function and performance.
