Purpose
To comment on a biomechanical study about suture configurations in hip labral repair and its clinical implications.
Methods
Review and commentary on a laboratory study assessing biomechanical strength of different suture techniques and devices in bovine hip labra.
Key Findings
Vertical and oblique sutures were stronger than horizontal sutures; smaller suture passage holes preserved labral integrity better; radiofrequency treatment helped only with horizontal sutures.
Conclusions
Labral base refixation using vertical or oblique mattress sutures with small diameter devices is currently the best practice for hip labral repair.
What this means for patients
Patients undergoing hip labral repair may benefit from improved surgical techniques that enhance repair strength and durability.
