The symptoms and pain that results from arthritis makes the condition one of the leading causes of disability, thereby limiting the affected person's quality of life. Correspondingly, many of those suffering also develop mental health afflictions, such as depression, because of their lower quality of life. The symptoms of arthritis can also cause people to seek pain medications, such as opiates, and could possibly lead to opioid abuse disorders. It is evident that arthritis is a very prevalent and debilitating condition, that not only affects people on a personal level, but as a community in whole.
