Purpose
To compare clinical outcomes between labral debridement/segmental resection and labral reconstruction for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI).
Methods
Systematic review of 20 studies including 400 hips undergoing labral debridement/resection and 275 hips undergoing reconstruction, following PRISMA guidelines.
Key Findings
Outcomes measured by modified Harris Hip Score showed comparable clinical results between both treatments. Reconstruction was more frequently used in revisions; debridement more commonly in primary surgeries.
Conclusions
Labral reconstruction is not inferior to debridement and is a useful revision strategy for unsalvageable labral pathology.
What Does This Mean For Patients
Patients with FAI have effective treatment options whether through labral repair or reconstruction, with good functional outcomes.
