Background
Labral reconstruction is a critical procedure in hip arthroscopy, especially in cases where the labrum is irreparable. This study surveys high-volume hip arthroscopists to determine the current practices for labral reconstruction.
Methods
A survey was sent to 12 high-volume surgeons to understand their indications, graft preferences, and techniques for labral reconstruction.
Key Findings
Surgeons typically perform labral reconstruction in revision surgeries rather than primary cases. Allograft was the preferred graft type, and segmental reconstruction was more common than circumferential reconstruction.
Conclusions
Labral reconstruction is favored in revision hip surgeries, especially when the labrum is irreparable. Allograft is preferred for grafting.
What Does This Mean for Patients
If your labrum is irreparable after hip surgery, labral reconstruction using allograft may be the best option for restoring joint function.
