Background

  • Labral tears in adolescents and young adults can significantly impact hip function. While labral repair is common, labral reconstruction is used when the tear is irreparable. This study evaluates outcomes of arthroscopic labral reconstruction in this age group.

Methods

  • The study reviewed 23 hips from adolescents and young adults who underwent labral reconstruction between 2009 and 2018. The patients were assessed with preoperative and minimum 2-year follow-up patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

Key Findings

  • Significant improvements were seen in all PROMs, with high levels of patient satisfaction. Both primary and revision labral reconstructions showed excellent outcomes.

Conclusions

  • Arthroscopic labral reconstruction is a safe and effective treatment for irreparable labral tears in adolescents and young adults, leading to significant improvement in hip function and high patient satisfaction.

What Does This Mean for Patients

  • If you're an adolescent or young adult with an irreparable labral tear, labral reconstruction could offer significant relief, improve your hip function, and help you return to daily activities with high satisfaction.
