Purpose
To compare clinical outcomes of arthroscopic acetabuloplasty and labral refixation performed without labral detachment versus with labral detachment.
Methods
Prospective cohort study with minimum 2-year follow-up. Patients with an intact chondrolabral junction underwent acetabuloplasty and labral refixation without detachment, compared to a control group who had labral detachment.
Key Findings
Both groups had significant improvements in patient-reported outcomes and pain scores with no significant difference between groups in outcomes or revision surgery rates.
Conclusion
Acetabuloplasty and labral refixation without labral detachment is a viable surgical option when the chondrolabral junction is intact, offering similar outcomes to the traditional detachment technique.
What This Means for Patients
Patients with suitable hip anatomy may benefit from less invasive surgery that preserves the labrum attachment, potentially leading to equally good recovery and outcomes.
