Purpose
To compare patient-reported outcomes following two different techniques for acetabular labral repair: labral base repair versus circumferential suture repair.
Methods
A retrospective matched-paired study involving 220 patients (110 per group) with similar demographics and hip pathology. Clinical outcomes including pain, hip function, and revision surgery rates were assessed over an average 30-month follow-up.
Key Findings
Both techniques led to significant improvements in pain and hip function with no significant differences between groups. Revision and conversion to arthroplasty rates were similar.
Conclusion
Both labral base repair and circumferential suture repair are effective for labral tears, yielding equivalent outcomes at mid-term follow-up.
What This Means for Patients
Patients can expect similar improvements in pain and function regardless of which labral repair technique is used, allowing surgeons flexibility to choose the best method based on tear characteristics.
