Background
The ligamentum teres (LT) is a hip joint structure whose role is not fully understood. Recent studies suggest that it plays an important role in stabilizing the hip and providing proprioception.
Methods
This review article looks into the biomechanics and function of the LT and its management in patients with hip joint pathology, including surgical techniques for LT reconstruction.
Key Findings
While LT tears are difficult to diagnose, recent studies show it plays a significant role in hip stability. For patients with persistent pain, LT reconstruction may be necessary.
Conclusions
The LT has more significance than previously thought, and in certain cases of hip instability, reconstruction of the ligament may be necessary.
What Does This Mean for Patients
If you're experiencing hip pain or instability after a ligamentum teres injury, your surgeon may consider reconstructing the ligament to improve hip function and stability.
