Background
Arthroscopic reconstruction is an option for irreparable acetabular labral tears. This study compares the outcomes of labral reconstruction with labral repair in patients with similar clinical characteristics.
Methods
Patients undergoing arthroscopic labral reconstruction were matched with those who underwent labral repair. Clinical outcomes, including patient-reported outcome (PRO) scores and pain levels, were assessed over a minimum of 2 years.
Key Findings
Both the reconstruction and repair groups showed significant improvements in PROs and pain levels. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of complication rates, secondary arthroscopies, or conversion to THA.
Conclusions
Arthroscopic labral reconstruction yields similar clinical outcomes to labral repair and should be considered based on the clinical scenario.
What Does This Mean for Patients
Patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for labral tears can expect similar benefits from either labral repair or reconstruction, with minimal risk of complications or need for further surgery.
