Purpose

To perform a survival analysis comparing clinical outcomes of primary versus revision hip arthroscopic surgery with minimum 2-year follow-up.

Methods

Prospective cohort study of 1155 hip arthroscopic surgeries assessing patient-reported outcomes, pain, satisfaction, and rates of conversion to total hip arthroplasty or resurfacing.

Key Findings

Significant improvements seen in all groups; primary surgeries had better outcomes and lower conversion rates than revision surgeries.

Conclusions

Hip arthroscopy is effective, especially for primary cases; revision surgeries carry higher risk for conversion to hip replacement.

What Does This Mean For Patients

Patients can expect good functional outcomes from hip arthroscopy, with primary surgeries providing a better prognosis than revisions.
