Background
The gluteus medius is an important muscle on the side of the hip that helps with walking and stability. Tears in this tendon can cause pain and weakness, and may require surgical repair.
Methods
This study followed patients for at least 5 years after undergoing endoscopic (minimally invasive) gluteus medius repair. Researchers measured pain, function, and patient satisfaction over time.
Key Findings
Patients experienced significant improvements in pain and hip function after surgery. Most patients achieved meaningful improvement in their symptoms. Results remained strong over time, with continued improvement seen between 2 and 5 years. Patient satisfaction was high. A small number of patients required additional surgery, most of whom had more severe tendon tears.
Conclusion
Endoscopic gluteus medius repair provides long-lasting improvements in pain and function, with most patients maintaining good results for at least 5 years.
What Does This Mean For Patients
If you have a gluteus medius tear, minimally invasive repair can provide lasting relief and improved hip function. Most patients continue to do well years after surgery, although those with more severe tears may have a higher chance of needing additional treatment.
