Purpose
To evaluate early clinical outcomes after endoscopic repair of partial- and full-thickness gluteus medius tendon tears.
Methods
Case series of 15 patients (14 women, 1 man, mean age 58) undergoing endoscopic repair with minimum 2-year follow-up. Outcomes assessed with hip-specific scores and patient satisfaction.
Key Findings
- 14 of 15 patients improved significantly on all hip outcome scores, with average gains >30 points.
- Patient satisfaction was high (7-10 out of 10) in 14 patients.
- Both transtendinous and full-thickness repair techniques were effective.
Conclusion
Endoscopic repair is an effective treatment for gluteus medius tears with good short-term functional improvement and patient satisfaction.
What this means for patients
If you have pain and weakness from a torn hip abductor tendon, this minimally invasive surgery can help improve strength, reduce pain, and improve quality of life with good results for at least 2 years.
