Purpose
To provide a structured, evidence-based physical therapy protocol after hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) supported by 2-year clinical outcomes.
Methods
Review of literature from 2000-2015 informed development of a biomechanically sound rehabilitation protocol. Outcomes of 595 patients followed for 2 years post-arthroscopy were analyzed for functional scores and pain.
Key Findings
Patients improved significantly across multiple hip function scores (modified Harris Hip Score, Hip Outcome Scores) and had decreased pain (VAS from 5.86 to 2.94).
Conclusions
A criteria-based, stepwise rehabilitation program enables patients undergoing hip arthroscopy to achieve excellent functional outcomes and return to full daily and sporting activities.
What this means for patients
Following this structured rehab plan after hip arthroscopy can enhance recovery and help patients regain full hip function safely.
