Background
External snapping hip causes pain and a snapping sensation around the hip. Traditional surgeries alter the iliotibial band but have downsides.
Technique
Endoscopic release of the gluteus maximus tendon insertion to reduce tension without altering the iliotibial band shape.
Methods & Results
8 patients (9 hips) treated; most had symptom resolution.
- One revision surgery was successful.
- All returned to previous activity levels.
- Improved hip function scores and no nerve or vascular complications.
Conclusion
Endoscopic gluteus maximus tendon release is a safe, effective treatment for external snapping hip.
What this means for patients
If you suffer from painful snapping around the hip, this minimally invasive surgery can relieve symptoms without changing the appearance of your thigh.
